About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy site in Manchester. This hands-on role involves the servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of 26 heavy goods vehicles, including breakdown cover and annual test preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine servicing, inspections, and mechanical repairs on HGVs
- Attend roadside breakdowns as required
- Prepare and present vehicles for annual MOT testing
- Effectively manage workload to minimise vehicle downtime
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults
- Accurately record services, repairs, and parts used
- Follow all health and safety guidelines during maintenance procedures
Areas of Responsibility:
- Carry out planned maintenance and ad hoc repairs
- Diagnose faults across engine, electrical, and transmission systems
- Perform welding and other mechanical tasks as required
- Conduct inspections and mechanical testing
- Replace or repair components in line with transport system standards
- Provide guidance and support to apprentices or less experienced staff
- Use appropriate power and hand tools for servicing and repairs
- Willingness to work shifts and additional hours as needed to meet demand
Requirements:
- Fully qualified HGV Mechanic with a minimum of 3 years' post-apprenticeship experience
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities
- High level of technical and product knowledge
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computer systems
- Self-motivated and well-organised
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions delivered verbally, in writing, or via diagrams
- Experience with waste collection vehicles is advantageous
