From Goals to Good Deeds: Westwood Steps Up at the GMYN x Westwood Cup

Last Thursday, the Westwood team swapped suits for boots—and even dinosaur costumes—for one of their favourite events of the year: the annual GMYN x Westwood Cup 5-a-side football tournament.

Now in its second year of both sponsoring and participating in the tournament, Westwood Group showed up in full force. What started last year with one dinosaur mascot doubled to two this time around. Even the mascots are evolving—who knows what next year might bring?

Westwood was fully invested in the real goal: raising funds and awareness for the incredible work of Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN).

This year’s tournament saw 24 teams from across Greater Manchester come together for a high-energy afternoon of football, fundraising, and community spirit. Thanks to all participants and supporters, an impressive £7,100 was raised to help GMYN continue their work with young people across the region.

GMYN is a charity that works with young people aged 10–25, particularly those facing challenges such as:

  • Being care-experienced
  • Having social, emotional, or mental health needs
  • Being disabled or neurodivergent
  • Arriving in the UK as unaccompanied asylum-seeking children
  • Not currently in education, employment or training

Through a wide range of programmes, GMYN helps young people build skills, confidence and resilience to lead positive, independent lives.

The atmosphere at the tournament was electric. Spectators were treated to some thrilling football, outstanding teamwork, and plenty of light-hearted moments (including a T-Rex trying to make a tackle).

A big congratulations goes out to this year’s winners:

🏅 Champions League Winners – AtkinsRéalis
🏅 Premier League Winners – Beeing Together
🏅 National League Winners – Wates Group

Special mentions also go to all participating organisations, including Slater Heelis, Department for Business and Trade, For Everyone Group, GMI Construction Group, AECOM, SUEZ UK, N Brown Group, SMRS, Wienerberger UK, Pell Frischmann, Amey and Street League. Their energy and support made the day even more special.

As headline sponsors, Westwood Group contributed £3,500 to help bring the tournament to life. For Westwood, supporting GMYN goes beyond just one event—it’s about investing in long-term change for young people across Greater Manchester.

Everyone at Westwood is proud to stand behind GMYN and their vital work, and days like this are a reminder of what can happen when businesses, charities and communities come together.

Here’s to another brilliant tournament—and plenty more dinosaurs next year.
